Introduction
At Tailored Wood, we believe in the power of preservation, especially when it comes to historic properties steeped in rich heritage. Our recent collaboration with a client in Winchester’s esteemed Peninsula Barracks is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding the architectural treasures of the past.
Background
Situated within the storied confines of the old military buildings, our client’s Georgian town house stands as a beacon of elegance amidst the historic charm of Winchester. Spread across four floors, this distinguished property boasts 17 magnificent box sash windows, each bearing witness to centuries of history.
Tasked with the delicate yet rewarding endeavour of refurbishing these windows, our team embarked on a journey of restoration that mirrored the meticulous process we’ve perfected in our previous projects. Just like our work on Southgate Street Winchester, our approach was defined by a dedication to preserving authenticity and enhancing functionality.
The Process
The restoration process began with the careful disassembly of each window, allowing us to assess and address any signs of wear and deterioration. From sanding and treating the timber to repairing rot and reinforcing weakened components, our craftsmen spared no effort in preparing the windows for their transformation.
Once the timber was primed and ready, we applied three coats of paint with precision and care, reviving the windows’ aesthetic allure while ensuring long-lasting protection against the elements.
We then took great care to ensure that each window was reassembled with precision and attention to detail. From replacing worn-out chords to rebalancing weights and installing new staff and parting beads, every element was meticulously attended to, ensuring that the windows operated smoothly and seamlessly.
The Result
The transformation of our client’s Georgian town house windows stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to preserving history and enhancing the beauty of Winchester’s architectural landscape. Through our dedication to craftsmanship and attention to detail, we have not only revitalised these windows but also safeguarded their legacy for generations to come.
At Tailored Wood, we take immense pride in our role as custodians of history. If you have a restoration project that requires the touch of experienced craftsmen, we invite you to contact us and discover how we can help bring your vision to life while preserving the legacy of the past.
